President Obama has a plan for America.  He thinks we need to "Eat our Peas" and accept cuts to programs such as Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid.  As an electorate, we overwhelmingly oppose these cuts.

What exactly is he trying to tell us with this message?  We may not like the taste of peas, but they are good for us so we should obey our parents and take our medicine.

Well, this author likes the taste of peas.  All they need is a little butter and salt and they taste great!

But whatever, I didn't pick the metaphor.  Cuts to these valuable social programs are not good for us and the President needs to receive that message.  I have an idea of how we can let him know and help some people in the process.

Cuts to programs that help senior citizens and the poor are not good for us as a country, these programs are the source of our strength.  The President seems to need a reminder of that reality.

He may think standing up for these programs is bad politics and might cost him an election, but it isn't.  Protecting these ideals is the backbone of Democratic success and if our party wants to grow bigger and stronger he needs to learn to love them.

Mr. President, you need to eat your peas, and we are gonna help you do it.

You can buy a can of peas online or in the local store and ship them to:

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

I just sent a few myself, if you join me I'm sure the White House will get the message and of course pass the cans along to local food banks.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

a Republic should infantilize the citizenry.

That he would do so says volumes about his arrogance.

the difference is, he and boehner are on the same side. they both want to cut social programs, to avoid making the ultrawealthy pay anything significant.  the carrying out of this major hit against the people of the united states will elevate obama into high status among the wealthiest of the world.

  •  The message conveyed by the metaphor "eat your (1+ / 0-)

No doubt, the Wall St. fat cats who got millions in bonuses after being bailed out with out tax money were delighted with the advice.

As for most us, well, that's another matter.

  •  I guess no one here (3+ / 0-)

was listening to the press conference and realized he was actually talking to Republicans when he said this?

I will not sign a 30-day or a 60-day or a 90-day extension.  That is just not an acceptable approach.  And if we think it’s going to be hard -- if we think it’s hard now, imagine how these guys are going to be thinking six months from now in the middle of election season where they’re all up.  It’s not going to get easier.  It’s going to get harder.  So we might as well do it now -- pull off the Band-Aid; eat our peas. (Laughter.)  Now is the time to do it.  If not now, when?  </blockquote>

and comprehension skills, which the Obama detractors on this site either "a," don't possess or "b," and more likely, choose not to possess, seeing how it would destroy their fact-free narrative that President Obama is a Republican or a monster or an asshole or any other words that have been used to describe him in comments and diaries over the past few days.

betrayal of the people of this country. we IMMEDIATELY have to cut social programs or everything will go to hell.

to justify obama you have to make tendentious arguments, picking out phrases and insisting on your particular interpretation.

if he were with the people, instead of against us, he would have a clear message. instead, it is all muddying the waters and false equivalencies.

in supporting this monstrous president you are supporting the destruction of the middle class.

Everyone knows that if we don't do something now, by 2037, benefits will have to be cut 25% just to keep the program solvent.
We can kick the can down the road, let the Republicans win in 2012, and let them fix it, or we can let Obama and the Democrats fix it now.
        What's your choice?
And really, your over the top rhetoric is about as attractive as watching a 3 year old throw a tantrum.
        "Monstrous" president? Holy crap.

  •  That's a great idea (0+ / 0-)

Inundating the White House with peas.

  •  I wouldn't do it that way... (1+ / 0-)
    Recommended by:

First of all, an unsolicited package of that size and weight is not likely to ever get within ten miles of the White House.  It's just going to create more work for some security folks that will have to determine whether it's harmless or not.  And then you can only hope that the peas wind up someplace where they're needed.

If you're determined to do this, why not purchase a case of canned peas, donate it to a local food bank, and send the receipt to the White House explaining why.

    •  Let alone getting yourself 'examined' by the DHS. (0+ / 0-)
